Sunday Adventures Pt. 3: Jacob's Ladder

On our journey through the Old Testament...

We come to the story Jacob and his dream of the ladder.
This is often a tough story to teach to kids because often, we give them the story and a ladder craft and send them on their rambunctious way.
What is the deeper lesson?

  • Read Genesis 28. Have each child read at least 1 verse.
  • Make a Jacob's ladder craft , or buy one from a nearby store.

  • Watch a video (many of which are on YouTube for various ages).

  • Talk about dreams, and they come up in the Bible. Some examples are Joseph (Gen 37 & 40), Joseph the earthly father of Jesus (Matt. 1& 2), and Solomon (1 Kings 3). Also talk about how we know if a dream is from God or not. Who dreams? List out some common dreams.

  • Cross-references: Acts 2:17, Deuteronomy 13:1-8, 14& 18. Using these Bible verses, talk about what to do when we know a dream is not of God and what we should do about it.
